Vida Maxine (Fox) Faust, age 82, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, April 6, 2010 at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, WI. Funeral services were held Friday, April 9 at Reetz-Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, WI. Officiating at the service was Pastor John Stennes-Spidahl with burial following in the Viroqua Cemetery.
Vida was born June 11, 1927 in Fayette to James and Maude (Crowfoot) Fox. She graduated from Wadena High School in 1945 and Upper Iowa University in Fayette in 1946, where she studied to be a teacher.
Vida taught at Wadena until she married Harold “Bud” Faust October 3, 1949 in Hawkeye. They farmed there until 1958 when they moved to Verdale, MN, where Harold worked on the railroad. They returned to Iowa, where she worked at the Quandahl FM Food Ranch Restaurant in Waukon. They then moved to DeSoto, WI in 1969, where they farmed and then moved to Pleasant Ridge in Viroqua, WI in 1972, where they also farmed.
Vida was a mother to 37 foster children and an adopted mother to Karen Jean Coggins Faust.
Vida is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Charles) Johnson of Cashton, WI; two sons, Raymond (Cathy) Faust of Janesville, WI and Roger (friend Donna Miller-Larson) Faust of Viroqua, WI; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Darrel Fox of Fayette; a sister, Norma Jean Bartels of Denver; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Vida was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold “Bud” Faust; her adopted daughter, Karen; and her special friend, Howard Hoffland.
