Ewald Arthur Lyngaas 1909-1992

Ewald Arthur Lyngaas, son of Engebret and Anna (Olson) Lyngaas, was born April 12, 1909 in Clayton County, south of Postville, Iowa. He died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1992 in Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union, Iowa. He was 83.

He was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church. Ewald attended the rural schools near his home and was graduated from the Clermont High School in 1927.

On Feb. 18, 1933 he was united in marriage with Ruth Larson by the Rev. Gunsten in the parsonage at Clermont. To this union two children were born. The couple farmed in Clayton County until 1972 when they moved into their new home in Clermont.

Ewald had served on various school and church boards and committees. He was an active and faithful church member all of his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Janet Hovden, who died in 1969; a son Ronald Lyngaas, who died in 1977; 3 sisters, Alice Nygaard, Leona Griebenow and Thelma Tinderholt, and a brother, Helmer Lyngaas.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth; three grandchildren, Leslie (Audrey) Hovden, Cathy (Scott) Decker and Lonnie Lyngaas; three great grandchildren, a son-in-law; a daughter-in-law; two sisters, Mrs. Gudrun Osmundson of Postville and Eleanor (Vernon) Anderson of Clermont; two sisters-in-law, and a brother-in-law.

Funeral services for Ewald A. Lyngaas were held Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1992 at 11:00 a.m. in the East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont. The Rev. Harry Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Casket bearers were Lowell Lyngaas, Alan Tinderholt, James Larson, Leon Griebenow, Merlin Chapman and John Amundson.
