Ursula Gantenbein, nee Haas, a daughter of Andrew
and Barbara (Joos) Haas was born at Jenaz, Canton
Grisers, Switzerland, Feb. 25. 1861. In 1866, she accompanied her parents to America settling
near Centralia, Iowa. Ursula spent her youth in
the public schools of Dubuque County. In 1879,
she was married to Louis Stoltz. Five children
were born, one son and four daughters; one, Mrs
Bertha Schrader survives her. Mr. Stolz passed
away in June 1893. Jan 12, 1896, she was married
to John Gantenbein of near Centralia. Five children were born, three sons and two daughters;
one son, Anton Elmer, died March 12, 1903. June
6, 1908, Mr. Gantenbein passed away.
As long as health permitted, she kept her own
home, and then made her home with her children.
Sept. 25, 1932, she suffered a stroke which
paralyzed her whole side, causing her to be quite
helpless and to depend on the aid of others whom
she had served. In June of this year, she suffered another stroke, and since then had failed
rapidly. She passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 6,
1935, at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Jno.
Schrader. Surviving are her children; Bertha,
Mrs. John Schrader, Andrew and John; Katherine,
Mrs. Everett Paul; Lydia, Mrs. Clair Sprague of
Randalia; 12 grandchildren, and one great grand-
daughter. many nephews and neices;one brother,
Anton Haas, Sr.; and one sister, Lucy Galliart
of Centralia.
Funeral services were conducted by her pastor at
the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Thursday, at
2 pm. Burial was in the Long Grove cemetery.(Oelwein Daily Register)
