James F. Cannon, son of Thomas and Alta Cannon, was born Oct. 26, 1908 in Oelwein, and died Sept. 20, 1953 at Mercy Hospital. His death was the result of a fall when he suffered a basal fracture and did not regain consciousness.

Mr. Cannon, who attended the Sacred Heart schools, began working for the Chicago Great Western Railway while a young man. He was employed as a brakeman at the time of his death. He was also a part-time employee of the Earl Moore garage and a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.

May 22, 1926, he married Helen Carver. They had two sons, Thomas, 15, and Mark, 4. Besides his wife and sons, he is survived by three sisters: Margaret, Mrs. Earl McGarvey, Mason City; Mary Catherine, Mrs. Paul Bloom, Oelwein; and Helen Joan, Mrs. Ed Kovac, San Francisco. His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church, Sept. 23, 1953, with Father Philip McDermott, celebrant of the requiem high mass. The sermon was by Father John E. Graham.

Casket bearers were Elmer Norberg, Frank Gates, A. Suserud, Clyde Hayes, Robert Olson and C. F. McCuniff. Mrs. Ronald Hasbrook, Mrs. George Gloede, Mrs. John O'Hara and Mrs. C. L. Oshel carried the flowers. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery.
