Marlin M. "Bud" Hainey 88, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., formerly of Vinton and Hawkeye, Iowa, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at Hospice House in Port Orange, Fla.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 307 North K Avenue in Vinton.

Marlin Marcell Hainey was born May 25, 1921, to Hugh and Stena (Anderson) Hainey in Burlington, Kan., where he spent his early years.

On Aug. 2, 1944, Bud married Allegra A. Andrews in Boston, Mass., while on leave from the Army. To this union were born four children.

Bud worked in sales for many years and lived in several different states. Hawkeye was home to him for many years. It was while residing in Hawkeye that Allegra died in 1984 after 40 years of marriage.

On Nov. 6, 1986, Bud married Janice (McElrath) Tessman in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. They lived in Hawkeye, Marengo, Vinton, and the last few years in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. They had been married for 23 years.

Bud enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, motorcycle riding, and times spent with family and friends. What he enjoyed most were the many hours he spent sharing Bible Truths with all he met.

His smile, laugh, positive attitude and generosity are the things for which he will be remembered. Bud will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his first wife, Allegra, Bud was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy; two brothers, Eldon and Edwin; and a son-in-law Steve Turner.

Bud is survived by his wife, Janice; his son, Robert (Nancy) Hainey of Vinton; three daughters, Stena (Steve) Turner and Marlena (Dave) Hanson, both of Vinton, and Marvel (Max) Sommerfeld of Mankato, Minn.; a stepson Jim (Karen) Tessman of New Jersey; 14 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
