Florence E. Gutcher Services Held March 23
CLERMONT -- Funeral services for Florence Gutcher, 84, were held Thursday, March 23, at 10 a.m. in St. Paul United Methodist Church in Elgin with Rev. Judy Deweber officiating. Interment was in Gods Acres Cemetery, Clermont. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
She died Tuesday, March 21, 1995 in the Good Samaritan Center at West Union.
Florence Evelyn Gutcher, daughter of Hiram Louis and Christena (Hendrickson) Monroe, was born Aug. 15, 1910, in Clermont Township, near Castalia.
She attended a country school in Clermont Township. From 1928 until 1933, Florence was employed as a telephone operator for the Clermont Telephone Exchange.
On July 4, 1930, she was married to Gerald E. Gutcher in the Little Brown Church, Nashua. To this union three sons were born. Florence and Gerald lived in Clermont all their lives.
Florence was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Elgin, two church circles and served as president of the W. S. C. S. She was also a member of the B and P Club, the Happy Valley Garden Club, and the Historical Society. She has also served as president of the P. T. A. and the Town Ladies Aid Society.
She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Earl, Ambrose and George Monroe, and five sisters, Abbie DeSotel, Goldie Holtzman, Iva Michel, Della Steffens, and Irene Nathem.
Surviving are her husband, Gerald, three sons, Donald, Salem, Ore.; David, Redmond, Ore., and Duane, Coolidge, Ariz., three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Charles Monroe, Waterloo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
