OELWEIN — Funeral services for Lorna Mae Goede will be 2 p.m.
Saturday, May 12, at Christ United Presbyterian Church, Oelwein, with
the Rev. John Kerr officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at
Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and after
1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Goede, 75, died at her home Thursday morning,
May 10,2001, after an extended illness.
She was born May 16, 1925, at Waukon, the
daughter of William and Ella (Sherman) Shafer. She
received her bachelors degree from Upper Iowa
University at Fayette and her graduate degree in
nursing at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She
was also a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps. She and
Chilton "Chile" Goede were married in Waukon in
1946. He died Aug. 23,1962. Lorna was employed as a registered nurse
at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, at Oelwein Mercy
Hospital, at the Mental Health Institute in Independence, and was a school
nurse at the Oelwein Community Schools for many years. She was a
member of Christ United Presbyterian Church and the Oelwein Retired
Teachers Association, as well as a longtime Oelwein resident.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia (Dr. Gary) Bowden of
McGregor; five sons, John of Hiawatha, Scott of Camden, Ark., Tim
(Karen) of Harrisburg, Pa., James of Oelwein, and Todd (Patti) of
Shreveport, La.; seven grandchildren; and one brother, John (Beverly)
Shafer of Waukon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chile; and one
daughter, Deborah Sue Parchesky.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
