Dolora J. Sabelka, 80, of Lawler, Iowa, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at her home after a short battle with cancer.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Nov. 23, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler, with the Rev. David Beckman as Mass celebrant.

Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery-Reilly Ridge, rural Lawler, with Carl Knudson, Keith Clawson, Andy Pomroy, Chris Douglas, Kyle Renn, Barry Reicks, and Nick Yordanoff serving as pallbearers.

Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Lawler was in charge of arrangements.

Dolora Johanna (Hackman) Sabelka was born May 16, 1929, on the family farm north of St. Lucas. She was the youngest child of Henry and Clara (Rausch) Hackman. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke Catholic Church, St. Lucas.

Dolora graduated from St. Luke's Catholic School upon completion of eighth grade in 1943. She remained at home, helping on the family farm, until her marriage.

On Oct. 8, 1953, Dolora was united in marriage with Julian Sabelka at St. Luke Catholic Church, St. Lucas, by Monsignor Schuh. To this union, seven children were born. The couple farmed north of Lawler until moving into Lawler on Nov. 29, 2008.

Dolora was a member of Sacred Heart-Reilly Ridge Church; upon its closing, she transferred her membership to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. She was a member of the OLMC Parish Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Carl and Adolph Hackman; and sisters Hilda Brandsmeier and Rose Hackman.

Dolora is survived by Julian, her husband of 56 years; two sons, Conrad Sabelka of New Hampton and Ralph Sabelka of Apple Valley, Minn.; five daughters, Clarene (Antonio) Sierra of Savage, Minn., Madonna (Michael) Knudson of Blair, Neb., Doris Sabelka of Rock Springs, Wis., Verna (Jack) Orvis of Lawler, and Ellen (Nick) Yordanoff of Pleasant Hill.

Additional survivors include 10 grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Hugo Hackman of Ft. Atkinson; two sisters, Hilaria Kipp of Festina, and Leona Winter of St. Lucas.
