Sadie G. Erhardt, 94, of Clermont, Iowa, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont. The Rev. Dwight Albers officiated.
Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery, Clermont.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clermont, was in charge of arrangements.
Sadie Geneva (Peterson) Erhardt was born Dec. 29, 1914, in rural Fayette County on the River Road west of Clermont. She was the daughter of Ole C. and Martha (Kloster) Peterson.
Sadie was baptized into the Lutheran faith in 1915 at West Clermont Lutheran Church and confirmed in 1929.
She attended Woodland School No. 7 north of Clermont for eight years and graduated from Clermont High School in 1933. She attended Iowa State Teachers College, where she received her rural teaching certificate; she also attended Luther College when renewing her certificate.
From 1936 to 1945, Sadie taught in rural schools in Allamakee County, Winneshiek County, Fayette County, and Taopie, Minn.
She worked in a munitions plant in Des Moines during World War II and at the clinic in Rochester, Minn.
On Aug. 9, 1945, Sadie was united in marriage with Raymond David Erhardt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed in the Clermont and Elgin areas for many years. They retired and moved to Elgin in 1969.
Sadie enjoyed cooking, flowers and sewing. She was an active member in both the community and her church.
Preceding Sadie in death were her parents; her husband, Raymond, in 1990; two brothers, Charles Peterson and Eli Peterson; and two sisters, Irene (Finn) Hanson and Gladys (Clarence) Johnson.
Survivors include her niece and nephews.
