Bernece H. Corbin, 89, of Volga, Iowa, died Saturday morning, Oct. 24, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center at West Union.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington. Officiating will be Pastor Rusty Phillips.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home and for one hour before services on Thursday.

Interment will be in Wadena Cemetery, Wadena.

Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Arlington, is handling the arrangements.

Bernece Hazel Gray was born Nov. 25, 1919, in Arlington to Lester and Ethel (Spores) Gray.

She graduated from Arlington High School in 1936.

On Aug. 20, 1937, Bernece married Sidney Corbin in Decorah.

Bernece was a homemaker and lived on a farm south of Wadena until 1978, when she moved to Volga.

She was an active member of Wadena Community Presbyterian Church and later United Methodist Church in Volga.

Bernece had been a resident of the West Union Good Samaritan Center since Dec. 30, 2005.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sidney, on April 23, 1983; and two sisters, Geneva Doty and Dorothy Gardner.

Bernece is survived by four sons, Sidney (Merry) Corbin of San Antonio, Texas, Dean (Arlene) Corbin of Fayette, Ronald (Sheila) Corbin and Rodney (Verna) Corbin, both of Arlington; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Duane (Norma) Gray of Waterloo, Iowa

A memorial fund has been established in Bernece H. Corbin's name.
