Mrs. CLEMENTE (Viola Agnes Schmelzer) KNEELAND 1902-1989

A funeral mass for Viola Kneeland was held December 7, 1989 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church at Clermont. Rev. Paul Otting officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Viola Agnes Kneeland, daughter of John and Ellen (Zapf) Schmelzer, was born November 22, 1902 in West Union. She died December 5 in the Good Samaritan Center, West Union.

She attended the schools near her home and graduated from West Union High School in 1922. She taught in the rural schools of Fayette County.

January 27, 1931 she married Clemente Kneeland at Sumner. They had 2 children. They lived in Clermont all their lives. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center, West Union, since October 20, 1989.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clemente in 1956, a sister, Florence (Mrs. John) Miller and 5 brothers, Anselm, Arthur, David, Aloysius and Amandus.

Surviving are a son, Ralph and a daughter, Ellen, both of Clermont; a sister, Susie Fridley, of Sumner, 2 sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Schmelzer, of Oelwein and Agnes Kneeland, of Ossian.

Casket bearers were Robert McSweeney, John McSweeney, Galen Mack, Raymond Schmelzer, Leo Nacke and Ralph Fridley.
