Alvina I. Halverson, 95, of Clermont died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader. The Rev. Jerome Godson officiated.

Burial was in Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elkader.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin was in charge of arrangements.

Alvina Ida (Ruroden) Halverson was born May 4, 1914, in rural Elgin to Olaf and Bolettie (Malmquist) Ruroden. She was baptized on Sept. 20, 1914, and confirmed at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader.

Alvina attended school through the eighth grade at Spring Valley District No. 9.

On April 7, 1934, she was united in marriage with Roy Halverson Six children were born to this union.

Over the years, Alvina took care of Edna Nelson, helped other older people in Clermont, and worked at the Valhalla and Pedretti's Bakery.

She belonged to the Clermont Auxiliary and gardening clubs.

Alvina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Halverson, in 1984; a grandson; three sisters, Mabel Bergan, Agnes Barnes, and Lyla Rodas; two brothers, Loyed Ruroden and Maynard Ruroden.

Survivors include her six children, Royale Daniels of Maynard, James Halverson of Elkader, Gary (Carolyn) Halverson of Tahlequah, Okla., Lynn (Vernon) Ames of Marion, Larry (Kristen) Halverson of Bastrop, Texas, Jaynee (Phil) Ruckdashel of Elgin; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
