Funeral services for Patrick J. O'Shaughnessy, 60, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Echo Valley Speedway, just east of West Union, Iowa. The Rev. Dave Lenth officiated.

Vocalists were Rich Hendrickson and Lee Hendrickson.

Interment was in the West Union Cemetery. Casket bearers were Dennis McElree, Randy Hager, Lonnie Vanderpool, Brock Willey, Armin Martin and Pete Woodson.

Honorary bearers were Davis Buddenberg, Gary Haars, Charlie Boeckenheuer, Karl Kobriger, Chris Reilly, Mark Dulin and Mike Gubbles.

Schmitz Funeral Home, Ossian, was in charge of arrangements.

Pat was taken to his eternal rest on Monday Oct. 12, 2009.

Patrick James O'Shaughnessy was born in Decorah on June 28, 1949. He was the son of Delbert and Viola (Wiltgen) O'Shaughnessy.

He received his education at St. Francis DeSales School in Ossian and graduated in 1967. He went on to technical school to further his study of mechanics.

Pat worked in the Chevy garage in Calmar and at Wilbur Ford in West Union until he was drafted into the service of his country.

After he was discharged, Pat returned to the Ossian area and started working for Reilly Construction of Ossian, where he was a dedicated employee for 32 years.

In 1988, he married his wife, Roberta, the love of his life until his granddaughters took over first place; Roberta had to settle for second place in his heart. They lived in West Union before later moving to their current residence in Fayette.

Pat liked to dabble in carpentry, but was a mechanic at heart. He loved working on cars, going boating on the river, and just liked the outdoors. He enjoyed cutting wood, but also hated cutting wood; he just liked being in the woods and the great outdoors. Pat was a great family man who loved his wife, his kids, and especially his two granddaughters.

Pat was a loving and committed husband, father, and amazing "Poppe," as well as a well-known and respected man.

He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert O'Shaughnessy, and a brother, Tom O'Shaughnessy.

Pat is survived by his mother, Viola O'Shaughnessy; his wife, Roberta O'Shaughnessy; two children, Brandon and Shannon O'Shaughnessy; and two granddaughters, Aveleen and Lola O'Shaughnessy.

Additional survivors include his mother-in-law, Evelyn Vanderpool; four sisters-in-law and spouses; multiple aunts, cousins, loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews.
