Robert C. Loyd, 74, of rural Elgin, Iowa, died suddenly at his home on Sunday morning, Oct. 11, 2009.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Lima Church in Lima. The guest speaker was Richard Bonjour. Interment was in the Lima Cemetery in Lima.
Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home of Arlington handled the arrangements.
Robert Clifton "Bob" Loyd was born May 21, 1935, in Oelwein. He was the son of Arthur and LaVonne (Odel) Loyd.
Bob attended school in Oelwein, Waucoma, and a rural school; he finished his education in the eighth grade in Fayette County.
On March 11, 1959, Bob married Sandra "Sandy" May Oakley in Fairbank.
Bob was a farmer on the family farm. He retired at the age of 62 but continued to work part-time at a number of different positions, including with the Iowa Department of Transportation, Bodensteiner Implement, and Farm Service; he also did custom bailing and helped on farms.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harry, Hank, and Lewis Loyd.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sandy Loyd of Elgin; three sons, Robert "Rusty" (Susie) Loyd of Kennelworth, Utah, Jack (Fawn) Loyd of Plant City, Fla., and Michael "Mike" (Angie) Loyd of Jesup; a daughter, Penny (Steve) Franzen of Hastings, Minn.; four granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, John (Barb) Loyd of Salem and Tom (Mary) Loyd of Hawkeye; two sisters, Helen (Wayne) Bentley of Fayette and Anabelle (Bob) Pagel of Decorah.
A memorial fund has been established in Robert C. Loyd's name.
