NANFRED OSMUNDSON 1904-1995

Nanfred Osmundson, son of Lars and Elizabeth (Overhus) Osmundson, was born August 8, 1904 at Clermont, Iowa. He died September 27, 1995 at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union at the age of 91.

Nanfred was baptized and later confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Ossian. He attended Dover #6 country school through the 8th grade. On September 25, 1929, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Ruroden at St. Olaf Lutheran parsonage in West Union. The couple had nine children.

The Osmundsons farmed in the West Union and Postville areas and after Nanfred retired, he worked as a handyman. He was a member of Christian Businessmen's Committee and past Trustee-Treasurer of Bethany Lutheran Church. He had also received the Governor's Award for Volunteerism.

He is preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, three sisters; one daughter, Delores in infancy, and one son, Kenneth in 1973.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; two sons and their spouses, Norman and Kathleen and Gaylord and Barb, all of Cedar Rapids; five daughters and spouses, Lyla and Arthur Molokken of Clermont, Eleanor and Mike Wilson of Bryan, Texas, Geneva and Paul Geeding of Wichita, Kan., Diane and David Lensing of Postville, and Ardith and James Dotzenrod of Decorah, 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one brother, Russell and one sister, Stella (Mrs. Orvel) Oyloe, both of West Union, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held September 30, 1995 at Bethany Lutheran Church in West Union. Rev. Richard Vettrus officiated. Music was provided by organist, Mrs. Ida Barness and soloists Phil Solheim and Pastor Vettrus. Pallbearers were Darin, Randy, Steve and Jeff Osmundson, Randy Molokken and Bryan Wilson. Arrangements were made by Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union. Interment was at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery.
