Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Becker-Milnes Funeral Chapel in Sumner, Iowa, for Mabel Kohlmeyer, 95 of Janesville, formerly of Sumner. Rev. Cathy Young will officiate. Interment will be in the Wilson Grove Cemetery in Sumner. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mabel died Wednesday, Sept. 30, at her daughter’s home in Janesville from natural causes.
Mabel Louise Kohlmeyer, daughter of Ernest and Mary Drewis Aegeter, was born June 6, 1914, at Fredericksburg. She was baptized Feb. 2, 1941, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tipton and confirmed June 8, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye.
April 30, 1933, she married Lester Kohlmeyer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. Lester and Mabel were engaged in farming all their lives until Lester died in 1972. In the 1960s, Mabel also began working as a C.N.A. in Oelwein and then later at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner until retirement. She had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye and later St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner until she moved to Janesville to make her home with her daughter, Linda, about 20 years ago. She then attended Heartland Vineyard Church in Cedar Falls with Linda.
Mabel is survived by one son: LeRoy (Betty) Kohlmeyer of Hawkeye; three daughters: Betty (Harvey) Ungerer of Hawkeye, Gertie “Shane” Patton of Hiawatha, and Linda Schult Ahrenholz of Janesville; 13 grandchildren; many step grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Lester, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter: Vicky Jo in 1951; son: Denny in 2003; grandson: Terry Kuddes in 2006; granddaughter: Dionne (Kuddes) Johanson in 2006; and infant great-grandson: Saul Vincent Schult in 1992; three sisters: Florence, Hazel and Adehlia; and four brothers: Floyd, Randy, Glenn and Hadwin.
