A celebration of life was Sunday, Sept. 27, near Wadena for Helene Skiles, 102, of Wadena, Iowa. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin was in charge of arrangements. Helene died Friday, Sept. 25, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette following a brief illness.

Helene Christine Skiles was born Nov. 16, 1906, in Dysart, to Peter and Emma (Selk) Lamprecht. Helene graduated from Dysart High School in 1924.

Helene married James Skiles in Dysart. They had one child. Helene worked along side James for many years farming until they moved to La Porte City in 1954. Following James’s death, Helene moved to Fayette, in 1975 and then to Wadena, in 1982. Helene resided in Wadena until moving to Maple Crest Manor in April, 2009.

Survivors include one daughter: Dona (Bill) Matthiesen, Wadena; five grandchildren: Rick (Nikki) Matthiesen, Independence, Lon (Linda) Matthiesen, Fayette, Ronda Matthiesen, Luana, Lorri (Bill) Knight, Strawberry Point, Mimi (Bob) Carlson, Houston, Minn.; eight great-grandchildren; four and a half great-great grandchildren.

Helene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and one brother: Arlen Lamprecht.
