Clara Olson

Funeral services for Clara Olson were held Monday, March 17 at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana. The Rev. Ted Ager officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Clara Olson, daughter of Gilbert and Anna (Jacobson) Ostlie, was born July 24, 1897 in Fayette County, near Clermont, Iowa. She died March 15, 1986 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.

She was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church and attended the Woodland School.

January 11, 1917 she was married to Henry T. Olson at the Parsonage in Clermont. They had 6 children. They farmed near Gunder until 1959 when they moved to Luana where Clara lived until the present time.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 3 sons: Hiram, Milo and Gerald; 4 sisters: Alma Anderson, Ella Nygaard, Blanche Nesvik and Helen Yauslin; 3 brothers: Henry, Archie and Lloyd and a granddaughter in infancy.

Surviving are her husband, Henry, 2 sons, Marion and his wife, Fern, of Monona, Donald and his wife, Jan, of Postville; a daughter, Clarine and her husband, Lloyd Schutte of Castalia; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Gladys Halverson of Postville and Hazel Reierson of Clermont.

Clara was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luana and the Dorcas Society at the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder. Her family and friends were her greatest enjoyment.

Casket bearers were Jeff Olson, Jim Looney, Jim Olson, Larry Moore, Mike Schutte, Rex Allen, Gary Hager, Tom Yoe, Allen Handke, Dale Olson, Greg Olson, Jerry Groth, David Olson, Nick Rolling, John Ridihalgh.
