Evelyn Grace Olson

Evelyn Grace Olson, daughter of Edmund Sever and Harriett Mary Julia (Halver) Dugstad, was born April 3, 1910 at Chester, Iowa. She died on Wednesday, June 29, 1994 in the Palmer Lutheran Health Center at West Union, Iowa. She was 84 years old.

She was baptized in April of 1910 in the Bloomfield Lutheran Church at Ostrander, Minnesota. She was confirmed in 1938 in the West Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont. Evelyn graduated from Clermont High School in 1928 and attended Iowa State Teachers' College in Cedar Falls for one year.

On April 3, 1937, she was married to Richard Louis Olson by the Rev. Gustav Gunsten in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. To this union, four children were born. Richard and Evelyn owned and operated the John Deere Implement business in Clermont. Evelyn was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church, Women of the ELCA and the BPW. Evelyn will be remembered by her family and friends as a caring and thoughtful person.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, who died in 1948; a brother, Donald Dugstad and a sister, Clarice Schrader. Surviving are three daughters; Mrs. Veldon (Mary Jeanette) Orth of Marshall, Minn; Mrs. LaVerne (Grace Rosalie) Swenson of Clermont and Mrs. David( Carolyn Alice) Smith of Postville; a son, Gene Richard (Janice) Olson of Camanche, Iowa; 11 grandchildren: Bradley and Jeff Orth, Kim White, Rick, Marti and Shannon Swenson, Angela Smith Schroeder and Wendy Smith O'Loughlin, John, Daniel and Michael Olson; 14 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Viola (Dugstad) Kath, Gladys Lundy and Margaret Olson; brothers-in-law, Elmer Olson, Glen Olson, Leonard (Lorraine) Olson and Vernon (Phyllis) Olson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 2, 1994 in the West Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont, Iowa. The Rev. Joseph Nesheim officiated. Special music was provided by Peggy Burnside and June Swenson, accompanied by Janet Helgerson, organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Gods Acre Cemetery, Clermont.
