Germaine H. Hemesath 1929-2009

A Funeral Mass for Germaine H. Hemesath, 80 of St. Lucas was celebrated by the Rev. David Beckman on Friday, Sept. 25, at St. Luke Catholic Church, St. Lucas, Iowa.

Interment was in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were John Tieskoetter, Steven Bodensteiner, Kevin Hemesath, Chad Cerny, Eric Cerny and Kurt Hemesath.

Arrangements were handled by Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union.

Germaine's death from age-related causes occurred Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at the Postville Good Samaritan Home, where she had been a resident for 10 years.

Germaine Helen (Bodensteiner) Hemesath, daughter of John and Rene (Meinert) Bodensteiner, was born April 22, 1929, near St. Lucas.

She attended St. Luke's School in St. Lucas.

On May 9, 1950, Germaine married Robert Hemesath in St. Lucas. To this union two daughters were born.

Germaine was in the first nursing class at Area I (now known as Northeast Iowa Community College), graduating in 1968.

She then worked at Palmer Memorial Hospital, West Union, where she last worked as the ward secretary. She retired in 1994.

Germaine was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and Rosary Society in St. Lucas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert.

Survivors include her two daughters, Diane (Richard) Mohs of Fayette and Joyce (Jerry) Cerny of Cedar Rapids; three grandsons; a sister, Vivian Hemesath of Ossian; a brother, Eugene (Rosalyn) Bodensteiner of St. Lucas; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
