Richard Orlando Olson

Funeral services for Richard Olson were held Friday, Jan. 26, 1990 at 11 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. Rev. Donald Loots officiated. Arthur Amundson was the soloist, accompanied by the organist, Pat Butikofer. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in God's Acre Cemetery.

Richard Orlando Olson, son of Elliot M. and Olivia (Olson) Olson, was born March 26, 1910, East of Clermont in Clayton County. He died Tuesday morning, Jan. 23 in Lutheran Hospital at LaCrosse, WI.

He was baptized May 22, 1910 in the East Clermont Lutheran Church by Rev. Bursett and confirmed there May 11, 1924 by Rev. Gustov Gunsten.

On Jan. 6, 1934 he married Rose Caroline Guyer at the Clermont Lutheran Parsonage with Rev. Gunsen officiating. They had 2 children. They farmed in the Clermont area for many years. They moved to their present home in Clermont in 1981. Richard was employed for several years at the John Deere Shop. He also worked in various other capacities such as in plumbing and construction.

He became a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church by transfer in 1935.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Mervin, 2 sisters, Vera Mae and Minnie and a nephew, James Jungblut.

Surviving are his wife, Rose; one son, Elliott Olson of Clermont; one daughter, Ramona (Mrs. Richard Meyer) of West Union; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, Aines Olson of Clermont; 2 sisters, Mrs. Harry (Myra) Stolle, Jr. of West Union and Mrs. Franklin (Bertha) Olson, Clermont; 2 aunts, Mrs. Lillie Trudo of Luana and Mrs. Richard Bigler of Elkader and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Casket bearers: Kevin Olson, David, Curtis,Bruce and Brian Meyer and John Shipton.

Honorary casket bearers were Clarence Kittelson, James Taylor, Eugene Thorson and Henry Nelson.
