Eugene Andrew Erickson

Eugene Andrew Erickson, 74, Elgin, Iowa, died Monday, September 14, 2009, at his home following a sudden illness. Eugene was born on September 30, 1934, rural Clayton County, Iowa, to Charles and Doris (Hader) Erickson. He attended Highland Country School through eighth grade and Elkader High School through ninth grade.

Eugene farmed for many years and loved the outdoors. In 1984, Eugene and his mother moved to Elgin, where he resided until his death. He will be deeply missed by his many family and friends.

Survivors include his brothers and sisters, Patricia (Silas) Butikofer, Clermont, Sheila (Fred) Knoke, Elkader, Dennis (Ann) Erickson, Dewey, AZ, Gerald (Carol) Erickson, Cedar Rapids, Charles Erickson, Rockford, IL, Pamela Armstrong, Denver, CO; one brother-in-law, Clifford Palas, Elkader; one sister-in-law, Linda Severson, Rockford, IL, and many nieces and nephews.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Doris Erickson; one sister, Norma Palas; one brother, Leslie Erickson, one brother-in-law, Pat Armstrong; one niece, Kimberly Osborne and one nephew-in-law, Alan McClure.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elgin, Iowa. The Rev. Jerome Godson will officiate.

Inurnment will follow in Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elgin, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2009, from 4-7 p.m. at the Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Friday.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
