A Celebration of Life for former area resident Larry L. Loftsgard, 57, of Davenport, Iowa, was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at Marion Lutheran Church (Gunder), rural Elgin.

Inurnment followed at the Marion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

A visitation for Larry was also held Saturday, Sept. 12, at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport.

Larry passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at his home in Davenport.

Larry Lee Loftsgard was born Aug. 28, 1952, to Bernard and Catherine (Boland) Loftsgard in Postville. He was baptized in 1952 and confirmed May 7, 1967, at Marion Lutheran Church.

Larry grew up on a farm outside of Gunder and graduated from Valley High School in Elgin in 1970.

He married Paula Halverson on Dec. 27, 1980, at Marion Lutheran Church. They became the parents of one son, Rhett.

Larry farmed with his father and brothers during the 1970s. In the most recent years, he thoroughly enjoyed working for Paul Kuhn/Franzen Implement Company for many years as a long-haul semi driver.

Larry was blessed to have loving parents, athletic skill, a job he liked, and an incredible pair of blue eyes! He enjoyed family gatherings, loved to play golf, and was a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Florida State Seminoles. As long as he could take his golf clubs, Larry would indulge Paula's need to travel.

Paula and Rhett want to honor Larry's incredible work ethic, his wit, and the quality of life he provided them.

Preceding Larry in death were his brother, Bernard Loftsgard Jr. (Tom); his grandparents Gilbert and Bessie Loftsgard and Phil and Ruey Boland; his uncles Charlie Loftsgard, Edward, John, Kenneth, Jerry, and Jim Boland; and in-laws Earl E. and Donna Halverson.

Larry is survived by his wife, Paula; his son, Rhett; his parents, Bernard ("Pa") and Catherine ("Ma") of Elgin; his brother, Jerry (Bev) Loftsgard of Elgin; his sister, Marilyn (Milt) Schutte of Elgin; his nieces and nephews, Jarrod Loftsgard of Wadena, Chantel Johnson of Lakeville, Minn., Ryan Schutte of Urbana, Joshua Loftsgard of LaCrescent, Minn., Wade Schutte of Chicago, Ill., Jocelyn, Anna, and Paige Hollingsworth of Concord, Ohio, Lt.JG John Parkhurst, serving in Afghanistan, and Susannah Brokl of Minneapolis, Minn.

Also surviving are Larry's sisters-in-law, Sandra (Tom) Brokl of Minneapolis, Minn., and Martha (Von) Hollingsworth of Concord, Ohio.
