Robert D. Hanson 1928-2009

Funeral services for Robert D. "Bob" Hanson, 81, of Hawkeye were held Friday, Sept. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, Iowa, with the Rev. William Horn officiating. Interment was in the Hawkeye Cemetery.

Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye was in charge of arrangements.

A resident of Hawkeye for many years, Bob's death occurred from natural causes on Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

The son of Helen Hanson, Robert was born May 2, 1928, in Tama County. He was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church (Buck Creek) of rural Sumner and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner.

He received his education in the country schools near Sumner and the Sumner public schools.

On Aug. 17, 1948, Bob was united in marriage with Rose Britt at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler.

Bob farmed for many years, did custom work, hog buying, trucking, worked on the crew that built Highway 93, was a Cornelius Seed Corn dealer, and most recently worked for Fayette County A.S.C.S.

Very active in his church and community, Bob was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, the Hawkeye Lions Club, the Hawkeye Volunteer Fire Department, the Hawkeye Cemetery Board, and the Community Club.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen, in 1986; a son, Jerry, in 2005; and an uncle.

In addition to his wife, Rose, of Hawkeye, Bob is survived by a daughter, Cheryl (Bill) Koch of Hortonville, Wisc.; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
