Julius Johnson 1854-1946

JOHNSON, OPPERUD, PAULSON, ANDERSON, BAUMGARTNER

Julius Johnson was born Aug. 13, 1854,
at Mineral Point, Wis.,
and passed away at the home of
his son, Malvin Johnson, at Waterloo,
early Christmas morning
at the age of ninety-one years,
four months and twelve days.
He was one of ten children,
eight of whom preceded him in
death.
His parents, Johan and Martha
Opperud, moved to a farm in
Clayton county where Julius grew
to manhood. On Feb. 13, 1864, he
was united in marriage to
Kjerstie Paulson and settled on a
farm near his parents. To this
union seven children were born:
Peter, who met accidental death
in January, 1824, Edward, living
near Clermont, Lena (Mrs. Gilbert
Anderson) near Clermont,
Matilda, who died in infancy,
Malvin, in Waterloo, Herman in
Chicago, and Millard, who passed
away in 1927 Mrs. Johnson
passed away in February, 1936,
and since her death Julius has
I made his home with Malvin.
Mr. Johnson leaves to mourn
his departure his four children,
one brother, Dorf Opperud, one
sister, Mrs. Anna Baumgartner, of
Bluffton, Ind., fourteen grandchildren
and two great grandchildren
besides many other relatives
and friends.
His son, Herman, and sister,
Mrs. Bauimgartner, were unable to
attend the services. Funeral services
were held Saturday afternoon
at one o'clock at the West
Clermont Lutheran church wilh
Rev. A. O. Nesset officiating.
Elsie and Esther Nesset sang,
"Thy Life was Given for Me" and
"Abide With Me." Lorraine Osterhus
sang "The Old Rugged
Cross." They were accompanied
by Agnes Bilden, organist. The
casket bearers were James Anderson,
Archie Johnson, Joseph
Paulson, Aulger Paulson, George
Paulson and Leslie Johnson.
Those attending from a distance
were Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Johnson,
Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Thomas
Neuman, Albert Lea, Minn., and
Fred Maurer, Roseanna and Isabel
Johnson of Fayette.
