Mrs. Julius Johnson died at her
home in Clermont, early Friday morning,
Feb. 21, at the age of seventy three
years, nine months and six days.
Mrs. Johnson had not been very strong
for a number of years, but the last illness
was only one of eight days. On
Wednesday, Feb. 12, she was up and
about her home duties as usual, when
in the afternoon she became violently
ill, suffering great pain. The doctor
eased her pains, but up to the last evening
of her life she was ever in pain.
It was quietly and at ease with firm
faith in her Savior that she passed
away at 5:25 Friday morning.
Mrs. Julius Johnson, nee Christi
Nelson, was born in Hadeland, Norway,
May 15, 1862. It was as a young
girl she came to this country. On
Feb. 13, 1884, she was united in marriage
to Julius Johnson of the Clermont
community, and they took up
residence on the old Johnson farm, 5
miles east of Clermont. This was
their home for 30 years, when they
moved to Clermont and lived for 3
years on the present E. E. Bilden
farm, then they moved to their present
home in Clermont, residing there
continually since that time. To Mr.
and Mrs. Johnson were born seven
children, three of whom have preceded
their mother in death, namely
one baby girl, and two sons, Peter,
who was killed while working on the
electric line Jan. 4, 1924, and Millard,
who died Dec. 8, 1927. There lives to
mourn the death of this loving wife
and mother, the aged husband Julius
Johnson, and the four children, Mrs.
Gilbert Anderson and Malvin Johnson
of Clermont, Edwin Johnson, 5 miles
east of Clermont, and Herman Johnson
of Chicago. Besides the children
there are fourteen grandchildren and
one brother, Brede Paulson, of Clermont,
also many other relatives and
friends. Mrs. Johnson was loved by
all who knew her for her kindly helpfulness
and friendliness to one and all.
The funeral services were held from
the home and from the Lutheran
church at Clermont, Monday, Feb. 24,
with internment in the Clermont cemetery.
The pastor, Rev. G. Gunsten,
officiated. Blessed be her memory.
