Died

Henry Wilson Zimmerman was born in Milesburg, Penn., May 27th, 1818, and died May 25th, 1890, aged 71 years, 11 months, and 28 days. He was licensed to exhort for the M. E. church in 1850 and to preach in 1851. He was ordained a deacon in 1866 by Bishop Ames. He came to Fremont Tp., Fayette county in 1856 where he passed the remainder of his days. He was called upon often in the early years to go far and near to assist in religious meetings, to visit the sick, and to officiate at funerals, and he always heeded the call and went. He was a great power in “protracted” meetings, and there are scores of families to-day that think there is no one like old Elder Zimmerman to preach a funeral sermon. He was upright, benevolent, and generous, and adorned the Christian profession in his daily walk and conversation. He has done a great deal of good in his day, and poor was his reward, but he has gone to a reward and inheritance that kings, presidents and millionaires might envy him. The good old father has fought a good fight and kept the faith.

The funeral was held Tuesday at the Fremont Center M. E. church, the funeral sermon being delivered by Elder H. S. Brunson, of Fayette, assisted by Rev. Shear and Rev. McKown and Rev. Miller, of Sumner. The turnout was tremendous, the procession being nearly three-fourths of a mile long. His wife, three sons and two daughter survive him. May it be said of us as it can truly be said of father Zimmerman, the world is better for his having lived.
