Mary Josephine Goetz, daughter;
of Michael and Magdalena Jacob,
was born at Elgin, Dec. 18, 1855, and
died at her home in Elgin, July 16,
1938, at the age of eighty-two years,
six months and twenty-nine days.
She had been ill at her home here
for about a year with heart trouble.
She received her education in the
public schools of Elgin. In 1882, she
was united in marriage to Daniel
Goetz at Elkader, Iowa. One daughter,
Lillie, Mrs. Nels Olson, of
Elgin, was born to this union and
she is the only survivor. Her parents
and all sisters and brothers
have preceded her in death.
Mrs. Goetz was a member of the
Lutheran church at Postville and
was a faithful attendant while her
health permitted.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
July 19, at the First Baptist
church with Rev. Paul Zoschke officiating.
