Donald C. Whitmore 1908 - 1983

WHITMORE, KRIEGER, TRAPPE, BROWNE

A prominent Oelwein man,
Don Whitmore, 826 N.
Frederick, died of an apparent
heart attack Friday morning at
his residence. An Oelwein
ambulance was called to his
home at 9:42 a.m. He was
pronounced dead at Mercy
Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in
Oelwein.
Funeral services are pending
at Hintz Funeral Home in
Oelwein.
A former Oelwein city
councilman, Whitmore had bevn
the head accountant at OCCO in
Oelwein. He retired in 1973. He
has done accounting and tax
work from an office located in
his home since his retirement.
Featured as THE
REGISTER'S "Personality of
the Week" on May 6, 1982,
Whitmore was publicity
chairman for the Lions and
Sertoma Clubs, groups to which
he belonged. He also was a
member of Grace United
Methodist Church and Ross Reid
American Legion Post 9 in
Oelwein.
He had been a shorthand,
typing and bookeeping teacher
in Hayfield and McGregor
schools. Whitmore was employed
at theDX Oil Company in
Waterloo, Rankin Manufacturing
in Cedar Falls and at a
CPA business in Waterloo before
coming to Oelwein.
Among his survivors are a
daughter, Mrs. Jack (Ellen)
Krieger; and a son, Stanley
Whitmore. Whitmore and his
late wife, Mary Lou, were the
parents of two American Field
Service students, Jochen Trappe
of West Germany and Patty
Browne of Barbados, the West
Indies.
His wife died Feb. 16,1976.
