Mary Lou Whitmore 1908-1976

Mrs. Don (Mary Lou) Whitmore,
a retired Oelwein
businesswoman, died at Mercy
Hospital this morning, Monday,
Feb. 16. She was 67.
Mrs. Whitmore had owned and
operated Mary Lou's Flowers
and Gifts until late last year. She
was active in the American Field
Service program, Oelwein
Business and Professional
Woman's club, bicenterinial
committee and in community
activities.
She and Mr. Whitmore hosted
two AFS students during the past
years, Dr. Hans-Jaochim
Trappe, Kaln, Germany, and
Patty Browne, Barbados, West
Indies. The Whitmores also
visited the students in their
native homelands.
Survivors include her husband,
Donald; one daughter,
Ellen, Mrs. Jack Krieger, John
Day, Ore. and a son, Stan
Whitmore, Ames; her father,
Nelson Brown, Cedar Falls; two
brothers, George Brown, Cedar
Falls; and Dick Brown,
Torrance, Cal.; three sisters,
Mrs. Charles Seltenrich,
Laramie, Wyo.; Mrs. R. H.
Stewart, Sedalia, Mo.; and Mrs.
Karl Kramer, Cedar Falls; and
six grandchildren. Mrs. Whitmore
had lived in Oelwein the
past 20 years.
Funeral services will be
Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m.
at Grace United Methodist
church. The Rev. Warren E.
Paige will officiate and burial
will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
Hintz Funeral Home is handling
arrangements and friends may
call there after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
