Regina A. Schult 1919 - 2009

Funeral services for Regina A. Schult, 90, of Hawkeye, Iowa, were held Monday, Aug. 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hawkeye, with the Rev. William Horn officiating.

Interment was in the Hawkeye Cemetery, Hawkeye, with Rollin Begalske, Rod Schult, Randy Schult, Jack Schult, Richard Begalske, and Bill Schult as casket bearers.

Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Hawkeye, was in charge of arrangements.

Regina's death from natural causes occurred early Wednesday morning, Aug. 5, 2009, at her son's home in Maynard.

Regina Arlene Schult, daughter of Richard and Anna (Weitenhagen) Hehmke, was born May 22, 1919, in Bethel Township of rural Fayette County. She was baptized June 29, 1919, by the Rev. Westenberger and confirmed June 25, 1933, by the Rev. Braun at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye.

Regina received her education in Bethel Township rural school and Hawkeye High School.

On May 6, 1940, she was united in marriage with Lester Schult at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Kraemer. Lester and Regina farmed for 25 years, including five years northwest of Maynard and 20 years west of Hawkeye. The couple moved to Hawkeye in 1966.

Regina worked at the bank in Hawkeye for two years and was a D.H.I.A. supervisor for five years. Regina operated the Ma and Pa's Place restaurant for eight years, selling the business in 1981. She was an assistant cook at the Hawkeye Meal Site from 1981 to 1991, at which time she retired.

Regina was a lifelong active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, where she taught Sunday school and served in a number of other capacities.

She also belonged to the Hawkeye Senior Citizens.

Preceding Regina in death were her parents; her husband, Lester, on Jan. 6, 1992; and a sister, Florence Niemann, on Dec. 28, 2007.

She is survived by a son, Larry (Sandra) Schult of Maynard; three grandsons; two stepgrandchildren; a great-granddaughter; four stepgreat-grandchildren; several stepgreat-great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Begalske of Ash Flat, Ark.; several nieces and nephews.
