Carol Jean Winter, 66, of Mason City, Iowa, formerly of St. Lucas, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A Memorial Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 24, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 5th St. SE, Mason City, with the Rev. Craig E. Steimel officiating. A gathering of friends and family was held one hour prior to the church service.

A private family inurnment will be held at Elmwood-St. Joseph Columbarium at a later date.

Major Erickson Funeral Home in Mason City was in charge of the arrangements.

Carol was born March 4, 1943, in St. Lucas. She was the daughter of Vincent and Elizabeth (Schwamman) Junk.

She attended St. Luke's Catholic School, St. Lucas.

On April 28, 1962, Carol married Donald Winter in St. Lucas. He preceded her in death.

Over the years, Carol worked for UNISYS in Clear Lake; Silver Lake Apartments in Rochester, Minn.; and Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mason City.

Carol enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; traveling with Roger; cleaning houses; taking care of her dog, Cleo; gardening and reading. She also had many special friends with whom she enjoyed spending time.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald, in 2002; a brother, Lee Junk; and a sister, Anna Mae Hageman.

She is survived by her significant other, Roger McFarland of Boxholm; her children, Dee Ann Rogers and husband Curt of Clear Lake, Lori Myers and fiancé Paul Theilen of Fertile, Kyle Winter and wife Dee Dee of Sheffield, Kurt Winter and wife Kristi of Mason City; and seven grandchildren, Miranda, Brandon and Alyssa Myers, Becca Rogers, Joseph Winter, Grace and Jack Maznio.

Additional survivors include five sisters, Rita Lou Einck of Waterloo, Iva Nell Pavlovec of Calmar, JoAnn Massman and husband Francis of Decorah, Dora Lee Terry and husband Dr. Robert of Thornton, Betty Hackman and husband Paul of Calmar; a brother and sister-in-law, Linus and Doris Winter of Vinton; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Holthaus of Cresco and Leona Winter of St. Lucas; and two brothers-in-law: Roger Moellers of Ossian and Zeno Kappes of Decorah.
