Robert L. Peterman, 56, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, died Wednesday morning, July 22, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center, West Union, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 25, at Arlington Church of Christ, Arlington, with the Rev. Scott Hall officiating.

Interment was in Cass Township Cemetery, Strawberry Point. Military graveside rites were conducted by the Arlington American Legion.

Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington handled the arrangements.

Robert Lee Peterman was born Dec. 8, 1952, in Oelwein. He was the son of Henry Lee and Lorna Loretta (Voshell) Peterman. He was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Volga.

After graduating from Starmont High School in Arlington in 1971, Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1981. He received training from the Army Security Agency School and thereafter served in the area of communications and intelligence. Robert served his country in Germany, Okinawa, and Ft. Hood, Texas.

Robert worked at Atwood Automotive in West Union, the turkey plant in Postville for 10 years, and at Triangle Plastics in Oelwein and Winthrop until he retired in 2004, due to his health.

He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

Robert is survived by his mother, Lorna Peterman of Arlington; two brothers, Roland Peterman of Cedar Rapids and Rodney (Lillian) Peterman of Arlington; two sisters, Roberta (Roger) Dugan of Maynard and Rose (Dale) Meyer of Ft. Atkinson; and numerous other relatives.

A memorial fund in Robert L. Peterman's name has been established for the American Cancer Society.
