Martin Nelson Funeral Held

Martin Nelson, the son of Christian Nelson and Hilda (nee Torgeson), was born March 31, 1889 at Clermont, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church.

He attended the elementary school at Clermont and also attended a business college in Decorah. He served in the armed forces of his country during World War I, fighting in the Argonne Forest with the Third Division and also served in the occupation forces.

He worked as a farm laborer most of his life and also hauled cream for the Monona Creamery. He had moved to Monona about thirty years ago. He was a member of the American Legion Post 519.

For the past year he had been living at the Lutheran Home at Strawberry Point. He had not been feeling well for the last six months. He passed away on March 3rd at the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 3 days.

Surviving are: one sister, Mrs. Ervin (Annie) McShane of Waukon; 3 brothers: Oscar of Manchester, Carl of Monona, and Elliot of Luana; also three half-sisters: Mrs. Robert (Myrtle) Howard of Chicago, Mrs. Milton (Selma) Schierholz of Luana and Mrs. William (Clara) Belschner of Arlington.

Preceeding him in death besides his parents are three brothers: Harry, Louis and Nelvin, and one sister, Minnie.

Services were held from the Schultz Funeral Home in Monona with Pastor R. E. Langholz in charge. Pallbearers were William Nelson, Arthur Nelson, Joe Nelson, Lloyd Anderson, William Moses, and Joe Keppler.

Military graveside rites were conducted by American Legion Post 519.
