Joseph Henry Nelson

Funeral services for Joseph Henry Nelson were held Monday, June 22 at First Lutheran Church, Ossian. Rev. Roger McKinstry officiated. Helen Guyer was organist. Interment was in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery. Muehlethaler's, of Elgin, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.

He died at the Aase Haugen Home at Decorah Friday morning June 19, 1987 at the age of 77 after an extended illness.

Joseph Henry, son of John and Isabelle (Nelson) Nelson, was born Dec. 18, 1909 at Clermont. He was raised and educated in the area attending rural Clermont schools. He was baptized and confirmed at West Clermont Lutheran Church. His entire life was spent in this area with many years of farming.

He married Clarice Walvatne August 9, 1930 at West Union. They had 6 children.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice, 4 sons: Enoch of Elgin, Iowa, Henry of Oelwein, Iowa, Milton of Decorah, Iowa and Kenneth of Clermont, Iowa; 2 daughters, Mrs. Roger (Delores) Leppert of Edgeley, ND and Mrs. Jack (JoAnne) Sexton of Englewood, OH; 23 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Arthur, Sr. of Decorah, Millard, Sr. of Clermont and Elmer of Cochrane, WI; and 4 sisters: Mrs. Rose Mouer of Fayette, Mrs. Amy Meyer of Clermont, Mrs. Leo (Irene) Wolfs, and Mrs. Albert (Ethel) Wilbur, both of West Union.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bill, 2 sisters, Edna Nelson and Nora Loftsgard, and a grandson, Jeffrey Nelson.

Pallbearers were Gary Sexton, Randy Nelson, Rick Nelson, Barry Nelson, Jerry Wilbur and Daniel Leppert.
