Everette McNulty

Everette Vincent McNulty, age 88, died May 22, 2009 at his home in Hawkeye after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 26 at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, with Rev. James Brokman officiating. Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, West Union. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

The son of Basil Edward and Rose (Keller) McNulty, Everette was born November 12, 1920 at Wilmont, SD. He graduated from West Union High School in 1940. Everette served his country during WWII and was stationed in Iceland. When he returned from the service he attended and graduated from the Cedar Rapids School of Barbering. Everette served the community of West Union as "Mac" the barber for more than 40 years.

June 8, 1948, Everette was united in marriage to Nora Beneke at Lansing. Six children were born to this union. He had a passion and gift for gardening - sharing his bounty with many in the community. His philosophy was "If God gives you too much, give it to others." He had appreciation and respect for the outdoors and loved spending time in the peace of his favorite fishing holes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora, August 7, 1964; his parents; three brothers, Basil, Eugene and Russell; one sister, Helen; and one granddaughter, Erica Nelson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his six children, Diane (Jim) Nelson of Winona, MN, Karen (Ken) Bement of Elgin, Kevin of Hawkeye, JoAnn (Gerald) Beenken of Hawkeye, Jerry of Minnesota City, MN, and Jim of Winona, MN; 11 grandchildren, Krista (Steve) Ward, Chad (Marie) Bement, Heather (Jeff) Pape, Kellie (Kyle) Waugh, Nick (Betsy) Bement, Tony (Sherry) Nelson, Eric (Kim) Nelson, Ben (Carolyn) Nelson, Amanda (Doug) Kelley, and Chris and Corey Beenken; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon T.
