A Mass of Christian Burial for Zebhert P. Pape, 68, of Clermont, Iowa, was celebrated by the Rev. Dale Rausch at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Clermont. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clermont.

Zebhert died Monday, July 6, 2009, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union, following a sudden illness.

Zebhert Paul Pape was born March 1, 1941, in West Union to George and Matilda Mary (Schmelzer) Pape.

He attended Union School No. 2 and graduated from Valley High School in 1958.

From 1962 to 1968, Zebhert served in the National Guard.

He farmed for many years west of Clermont.

Zebhert enjoyed mushroom hunting, reading books, gardening and loved animals. He liked spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Preceding Zebhert in death were his parents; a brother, George Pape Jr.; two brothers-in-law, Gerald Blockhus and Jerry Wander; and a great-niece, Robin Meyer.

Survivors include seven siblings, Ann Blockhus of Clermont, Gladys Peters of Elgin, Joyce (Bert) Westpfahl of Hiawatha, Nancy (Elmer) Heller and John Pape, both of Clermont, Michael (Judy) Pape of Tallahassee, Fla., Christine Wander-Meisner (Lyle) of Clermont; 15 nieces and nephews; 27 great-nieces and -nephews; and 28 great-great-nieces and -nephews.
