Helene D. Brandt, 97, of Clermont, Iowa, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Grandview Care Center, Oelwein, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Rev. Steve Brackett officiated. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery, Postville.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Helene Dora Brandt was born June 5, 1912, in Clayton Center. The daughter of Otto and Alma (Rieckhoff) Buchheim, she was baptized July 7, 1912, and confirmed December 23, 1928, at Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center.

Helene attended the rural school near her home.

On July 4, 1931, she married Raymond Louis Rudolf Brandt. Three children were born to this union.

Helene was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, square dancing, gardening and crocheting.

She was a member of the Henderson Prairie Study Club, Senior Citizens Club and St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She loved spending time with her family and friends. Helene will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; four sisters, Greta Fascher, Melva Brown, Mabel Milburn and Eileen Walters; three brothers, Ervin Buchheim, Donald Buchheim, and her twin brother Harley Arno Buchheim, age 1½; and a grandson, Aaron Brandt.

Survivors include three children, Norma (James) Stewart and Duane (Delores) Brandt, both of Oelwein, and Shirley (Francis) Butikofer of Elgin; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
