Archie R. Martin, 63, of West Union, Iowa, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at his home following a brief illness.

A gathering of friends and family was held Tuesday, July 14, at West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, with a Prayer Service and Tribute officiated by the Rev. Dwight Albers.

A private family inurnment was held Wednesday, July 14, at God's Acres, Clermont.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Archie Robert Martin was born July 12, 1945, at the West Union hospital (what is now the Fayette County Historical Center). The son of Willard and Marie (Mosby) Martin of Clermont, he was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Church in West Union.

After Archie was born, his parents moved from Clermont to West Union, where he attended Rolling Green Country School. In 1959, the family moved to Eldorado and Archie attended schools in the North Fayette County Community School District through the eighth grade.

On Aug. 28, 1965, Archie was united in marriage with Beverly Broszeit. Five children were born to this union.

Archie drove a semi for Earl Ruckdaschel, Glen Nims and Dean Corbin for seven years through eight states, and he worked for the City of West Union for 32½ years. Archie will be deeply missed by the many family and friends who knew him.

Archie was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Willard "Bud" Martin Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Martin of West Union; five children, Dale (Nancy) Martin of Westgate, Penny (Richard) Hanson of Clermont, Michael Martin (special friend Bill Harris) of Waterloo, Pam (Gerald) Walvatne of West Union, Jonathan (Kami) Martin of Evansdale; 10 grandchildren, Dale Jr., Abby, Brianne, Tim, Tyler, Hailey, Lucas, Kori, Jonathan Jr., and Alyssa; a great-granddaughter, Chloe; two sisters, Wilma Cline, Peg Borglum; and a brother, Adrian Martin.
