Marinus N. Mihm, 88, of West Union, Iowa, formerly of St. Lucas, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Stoney Brook Village in West Union.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Rev. Marvin Salz on Wednesday, June 24, at St. Luke Catholic Church in St. Lucas.

Interment was in the church cemetery. Cary Jo Mihm, Jeremy Pesek, Adam Thornton, Jamey Pesek, Lucas Thornton, Scott Mihm, Joshua Pesek and Paul Galligan were the pallbearers.

Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel, in Fort Atkinson was in charge of arrangements.

Marinus Nicholas Mihm, son of William and Anna (Croatt) Mihm, was born Dec. 10, 1920, in St. Lucas.

He attended St. Luke's Catholic School in St. Lucas.

Marinus farmed his entire life until he was 80 years old. He trucked cattle, along with buying and selling of cattle for many years.

On June 17, 1943, Marinus married Margaret Mitchell at St. Luke Catholic Church in St. Lucas. To this union six children were born.

Marinus was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He also served on the St. Lucas City Council.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jacque Cayton, in 2007; and a sister, Bernadine (Al) Dietzenbach.

Marinus is survived by his two sons, Gary (Janice) Mihm of West Union and Bill Mihm of St. Lucas; three daughters, Deb (Stephen) Pesek of New Hampton, Tammy (Al) Thornton of Decorah, and Jolene (Bill) Galligan of Waverly; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Alfreida (Clet) Koshatka of Protivin and Alice Kacher of Fort Atkinson; and a brother, Donald (Charlotte) Mihm of St. Lucas.
