Mary M. Spragg, 55, of Farmersburg, Iowa, died suddenly Saturday afternoon, May 30, 2009 at home.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 5, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, with the Rev. Charis Combs-Lay officiating. Interment was in the Hazleton (Fontana addition) Cemetery.
Mary is survived by her husband Donald of Farmersburg; two daughters, Marguerite (Ed) White of McGregor and Jenifer (Brian) Gontermon of Oelwein; one son Robert of Everett, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Klarista, Evan, Teagan, Alyssa and Brennan White, Christopher Lee Kammerer, and Kayla and Heather Gontermon; her stepmother Lucille (Walt) Taubeneck of Marysville, Wash.; three sisters Vivian Miller of Fayette, Charlotte (James) Miller of Jesup and Sandy (Tom) Kisner of Oelwein; and four brothers, Terry Larson of Hazleton, Larry "Red" (Zella) Larson of Luana, Junior H. (Connie) Larson of Oelwein and James (Pat) Larson of Oelwein.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Bonnie Hassler; and two brothers Wayne and Harry Larson.
Mary Margarite Larson was born March 20, 1954 at Oelwein, Iowa the daughter of Harold L. and Marguerite (Warnke) Larson. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. Mary attended Oelwein Community High School until the 11th grade and then received her GED from MFL High School. She later earned degrees in business management, bookkeeping and computer drafting from the Northeast Iowa Community College in 2006 where she was on the dean's list. Mary married Donald Dean Spragg on Aug. 8, 1971 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. She worked at Products Unlimited in Guttenberg, as a test auditor and senior final auditor from 1991 to 2004. Mary then worked at Cabelas in Prairie du Chien, Wis., as a packer and shipper in distribution from 2006 to present.
