Ruth M. Manross, 90, of Independence, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at the Buchanan County Health Center following a short illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Pastor Tom Jones officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence.
White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements where friends may call after 4 p.m. on Friday.
She was born Jan. 10, 1919, in Fayette County, Iowa, the daughter of Jess Albert and Saloma (Hausler) Neil. She graduated from high school in Oran, 1936. On March 20, 1945, she and Lowell Lynn Manross were married in Fairbank. In addition to caring for her home and family, Mrs. Manross was the manager of the canteen at the Mental Health Institute in Independence for many years. She retired in 1984.
Ruth was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was active in the quilting group and made mittens for Christmas missions work. She was a former Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was a member of the Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary and V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Mrs. Manross is survived by her husband Lowell, two daughters, Nancy (John) Willard of Independence and Diane (Dean) Reck of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one brother, Leon Neil of Oelwein. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson.
