Daryl E. Kaune, 63, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, June 9, 2009 at his home.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 12, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, with the Rev. Dr. Kay Cook officiating. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife Jeannie Kaune of Oelwein; one daughter Kim (Joe) Rogge of DeWitt; two sons, Randy (Chris) Kaune of Fayette and Rodney (Lisa) Kaune of Urbandale; 15 grandchildren, Kristina, Jacob, Brendan, Anitia, Crystal, Randy Jr., Robert, Sean, Jason, Stephanie, Marissa, Aleysha, Donovon, Kacey and Joshua; five great-grandchildren, Emmah, Jackson, Mason, Brady and Gavin; a brother Steve (Arlys) Kaune of Hazleton; three sisters, Lois (Harold) Schlatter of Grinnell, Marilyn (Tim) Darland of Iowa Falls and JoAnn (Vaughn) Drewes of West Union; beloved companions, O.P., Jackson, Indy, Sheba, Lexi, Amanda, Gypsie and Sammy; and numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, LaVern and Marvin Kaune; and beloved friends Stone Boy and Cody.
Daryl Ernest Kaune was born July 5, 1945 at Independence, Iowa the son of Ivan Luther and Mildred Ada (Eschen) Kaune. He graduated from West Central High School in Maynard, in 1963. Daryl married Jeannie Susan Bathke on March 6, 1965 at Oran. He was a truck driver for 35 years for Walnut Grove, Occo Feeds, Ace Lines, Hoffman Trucking, Jensen Trucking, Dave Kirk Trucking, Warren Transport, Hub City Implement, and the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Daryl also owned and operated I J D Trucking for five years.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard, a member of AA and had been sober for six years, Teamsters, and the Truck Drivers' Union.
