Harold D. Chase 1921-2009

Harold D. Chase, 88, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Sunday evening, June 14, 2009 at the Oelwein Health Care Center.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein with the Rev. Tim Schoepf officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, with graveside military rites by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post 9.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established for Oelwein Health Care Center.
Harold Duane Chase was born Feb. 11, 1921 at Fairbank, Iowa the son of Fred L. and Olive B. (Adams) Chase. He graduated in 1938 from West High School in Waterloo. He served in the Navy during W.W. II. Harold was united in marriage to Marion Arline Johnson on Aug. 29, 1943 at Berkeley, Calif. After the war, Harold managed several Singer Sewing Machine stores in the Midwest. He moved his family back to Oelwein in 1956 where he worked as a contractor building homes until 1961. Harold was then a realtor and later operated Chase Insurance Agency in Oelwein for many years. Following his retirement, Harold did many house appraisals.
Harold was a member of the First Baptist Church, Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post #9 and the V.F.W. He was member of the former Oelwein Elks Club. Harold enjoyed playing bridge, fishing and genealogy.
Harold is survived his by his wife Marion Chase of Oelwein; three sons, Larry (Sheila) Chase of Oxnard, Calif., Stephen "Louie" (Maribeth) Chase of Davenport and Craig (Connie) Chase of Oelwein; nine grandchildren, Joe, Mindy, Todd, Brian, Alexis, Lyndsay, Jacob, Benjamin and Sarah; six great grandchildren and a brother Clair (Wanda) Chase of Dunkerton.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, brother Clifford and a sister Evelyn Eldridge.
