Kenneth G. Wendland, 93, of Oelwein, Iowa, formerly of Hawkeye, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein following a sudden illness.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with the Rev. Harry Koelker as the Mass celebrant.

Burial was in the Hawkeye Cemetery, Hawkeye.

Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, was in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth G. Wendland was born July 31, 1915, in Hawkeye. He was the son of Fred and Pauline (Schroeder) Wendland.

He graduated from Hawkeye High School in 1933.

On Feb. 4, 1937, Kenneth married Ethel J. Aegerter. She preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 1996.

Kenneth farmed for 35 years. He served as postmaster for Hawkeye from 1966-1970, and then worked for Reilly Construction of Ossian until his retirement.

In addition to his wife, Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Greg; a great-granddaughter; five brothers, Arthur, Walter, Leo, Herman and Clarence Wendland; and three sisters, Pauline, Leona and Evelyn.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra (Eli) Miller of Dundee, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
