Funeral services for Warren M. Frey, 85, of Lisbon, formerly of West Union, Iowa, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 11, at Bethel Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Galen Smith will officiate.

Providing music will be organist Sue Updegraff and soloist John Falb.

Interment with military rites will be in the Wadena Cemetery, Wadena, with Alex Frey, Benton Frey, Reed Smith, Matthew Frey, Anthony Frey and Jesse Bond as casket bearers.

Arrangements are being handled by Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union.

Warren's death occurred Saturday, June 6, 2009, at his home in Lisbon.

Warren Martin Frey, son of William and Hazel (Perkins) Frey, was born Jan. 23, 1924, on the family farm near Wadena.

He attended Stone Country School. After graduating at the age of 16 from Wadena High School in 1940, he attended one year of college at Upper Iowa University in Fayette.

Warren served his country with the United States Army, stationed overseas in Korea from 1945 to 1947.

On June 19, 1949, Warren was united in marriage with Berle Christensen at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union. Four children were born to this union.

The Freys farmed with Warren's father near Wadena for a few years. They then moved to a dairy farm outside of West Union, where they lived until the winter of 2005, when they moved to Lisbon.

Warren was a member of the Wadena American Legion post and West Union Bethel Presbyterian Church.

He was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed making things for his grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing, square dancing, and always loved a good Green Bay Packers game.

Preceding Warren in death were his parents; his sister, Irene, and her husband, Archie Wheeler; and two brothers, John and Lindy Frey.

Those left to cherish his memory are Berle, his wife of 60 years; and his four children, Alvin (Laura) Frey of Marion, Duane (Norma) Frey of Lisbon, Lynn (Gene) Bond of Arlington and Margaret (Kyle) Friauf of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Alex Frey, Benton (Monica) Frey, Reed Smith, Matthew (Amy) Frey, Anthony (Jennifer R.) Frey, Jennifer J. Frey, Makenzie Frey, Jesse Bond, Tracy (Matt) Zitelman, and Casey Bond; seven great-grandchildren, Lydia, Aubrey, Cooper, Calvin, Brittany, Benton and Brayton Frey; Warren's sister, Dora Medberry of Elgin; close family friend Joanne Frey of Lisbon; two sisters-in-law, Colleen Frey of Fayette and Betty Frey of St. Olaf; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
