A memorial graveside service for Eugene H. Torson, 91, of Rhome, Texas, formerly of West Union, Iowa, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the West Union Cemetery, West Union.

Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.

Eugene died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the home of his daughter Linda Ortberg in Rhome, where he had resided since October 2008.

Eugene Henry Torson was born on Jan. 7, 1918, at home on the family farm three miles north of West Union. He was the youngest of 10 children raised by Thomas Torson and Evalena (Hoover) Torson.

He completed his education at West Union High School. Through the years Eugene was engaged in farming and worked as a salesman for the Watkins Company, as well as the McNess Company.

At the age of 65 he and his second wife began a career as managers of apartments in Ames, where he worked until the age of 89.

In October 2008, Eugene moved to Rhome, Texas, to live with his daughter Linda Ortberg and her husband, Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dolores Seaton; his second wife, Eunice Kugel; and all of his siblings.

Survivors include his five daughters, Dianna Torson of Brookings, S.D., Frances Allsup of Strawberry Point, Marilyn Olson of Lincoln, Neb., Linda Ortberg of Rhome, Texas, and Kris Stapher of Flandreau, S.D.; a stepson, Randy Kamp of Osage; 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
