Mrs. Jay Brown 1897-1968

Mrs. Jay M. Brown of 12 Hillside
Drive, West, died Thursday,
Nov. 14, at a hospital in Rochester,
Minn., where she had been a patient
following major surgery.
She was born at Elgin, Jan. 21, 1897,
the eldest child of Murray
V. and Lizzie Bokovan Kiple. Her
early life was spent in Elgin
where she graduated from High
School in 1915 and where she was
a member of the Elgin Methodist
church.
On Jan. 24, 1917 she married
James Yearous. Three daughters
were born: Darlene, Mrs. Forrest
Shaffer, Elgin; Geraldine, Mrs.
Gerald Shaffer, Vinton; and Kathleen,
Mrs. Harold Glass Jr., Dundee.
The family lived in the Elyria
community for many years where
she was a worker in the Illyria
Community church and in many
community affairs.
On Dec. 24, 1965 she married
Jay Milton Brown of St. Paul,
Minn., and since then had lived
in Oelwein.
She is survived by her husband;
three daughters, nine grandchildren
and eight great grandchildren.
Other survivors include
three brothers: H. J. Kiple, Farmersburg;
F. K. Kiple, DeKalb, Ill.;
C. D. Kiple, Ottumwa; and three
nephews and a niece.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, a sister, Frankie May,
and a brother, C. LaVerne Kiple.
Funeral services were conducted
by the Rev. Delbert Dawes on
Monday, Nov. 18, at 1:30 p.m. in
the lllyria Community church.
Burial was in the Elgin cemetery.
Muelenthaler Funeral Home of Elgin
was in charge of arrangements.
