Herman Bailey Peterman 1878-1968

Herman Bailey Peterman, 89,
son of William and Almira Shadle
Peterman, was born on a farm
near Strawberry Point in Clayton
County Dec. 22, 1878.
His father died when he was
very young and he went to live
with his grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Daniel Peterman in Hyland
Township near Volga. He attended
the rural schools. When he made
his home at Wadena, he began
working as a carpenter and later
also added the work of wiring
houses for electricity. He built
the Presbyterian church at Wadena.
On June 26, 1907, he was married
to Emma Herrling at Wadena.
Two children were born, Helen
Peterman and Herman Peterman,
both of Randalia. At the time
when Mr. and Mrs. Peterman, Sr.
were married, they lived at the
home of Mrs. Peterman's parents
at Wadena. Later after Herrling
died, Mr. and Mrs. Peterman helped
care for the widowed mother.
The wife of Peterman died in
1953 and then the daughter, Helen,
kept house for him until 1965,
when, because of illness, he came
to live with Mr. and Mrs. Herman
Peterman at Randalia, where he
lived until November 1967. He
then became a resident of the
Fayette County Home. West Union,
and died Nov. 18,1968.
Peterman was a member of the
Lutheran church since 1935. He
became a member of St. Paul
Lutheran church, Maynard in 1967.
Besides his children, two grandchildren,
two step grandchildren,
one great grandson, three step
great grandchildren and one half sister,
Mrs. Nellie Beil of Peoria,
Ill., survive.
Services were held at the Presbyterian,
Wadena, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20. The
Rev. Arnold Thalacker of St. Paul Lutheran
church, Maynard, officiated.
Belles Wright Funeral Home of Fayette was in charge.
