MRS. HARRIET HOWE
Harriet Bailey was born in Orange
county, New York, May 21st, 1815. In
early childhood moved with her parents
near Columbus, Ohio and settled
on a farm. November 21, 1832 she was
united in marriage to William Bell.
In 1842 they came to Boone County.
Illinois, where their home was many
years. To this union eleven children
were born, several died in infancy.
Her husband died November 29, 1876.
In 1978 she was married to Mr. Howe
and in 1882 they came to Iowa and
moved on a farm near here. In 1884
he went to Yankton, S. Dakota to visit
his son and died there. She has since
made her home with her children, six
of whom survive her. Mrs. S. C. Sanders
of Hazleton, where she made her home
at the time of her death, Mrs. J. W.
Alids of Wisconsin, Mrs. C. L. Foster
of Independence, W. R. Bell, Mrs. Geo. A.
Fish, Walter C. Bell of Oelwein.
